Ceiling Fan Installation
Edinson Electrical delivers professional ceiling fan installation services in Allentown, PA, helping homeowners and businesses improve air circulation, lower energy costs, and add stylish lighting to any room.
Professional Ceiling Fan InstallationServices
At Edinson Electrical, our professional ceiling fan installation services cover everything from straightforward replacements to complex new installations in rooms without existing overhead wiring. Our licensed electricians install fans of every size, including standard 52-inch living room models, oversized great-room fans, low-profile hugger fans, and damp-rated outdoor patio fans. We verify that the ceiling box is fan-rated before mounting any fan because standard light fixture boxes cannot safely support the weight and vibration of a moving fan. When the existing box is not fan-rated, we install a proper UL-listed fan brace that anchors directly to the ceiling joists. Wiring is run cleanly and securely, with separate switch legs when customers want independent control of the fan and light. Remote control receivers, wall controls, and smart home integrations are all part of what we handle on a typical installation. We test each fan through every speed setting and verify proper blade balance before leaving the job site. Homeowners across Allentown, PA choose Edinson Electrical because we treat each installation as a small but important project worth doing correctly. Our lifetime craftsmanship warranty backs every fan we install. Financing through Synchrony is available for larger projects that include multiple fans or related electrical upgrades.

Edwin & Harold were professional & very congenial. My problem was addressed the same day as my scheduled appointment.
Knowledgeable, good service , great customer service from booking with Amanda all the way to having the technicians in my home
Excellent customer service! Took the care and time to patiently explain everything and listen to my needs and concerns and offered multiple options to consider at my own pace.

Respectful, understanding and very thorough explanation of their work. Highly recommend you get a quote from them before paying double to the larger companies!
Edwin was very informative and respectful. Quick and effective work. Very thorough and good at his job. Erwin and Harold were absolutely fantastic. Courteous and clean service. Very professional. Advised me on what was needed to bring my kitchen oven up to code and accomplished my installation quickly and same day. Estimate was equal to what I paid. They diagnosed the issue, coordinated the work, and had everything fully operational in just two visits. We’re grateful for their efficiency and expertise.
The electricians(Erwin Harold and their crew) did a wonderful job. Erwin explained step by step in details on the things they were going to work on before they did the job. They accommodated everyone in the household especially our autistic son. With all the cosmetic work that had to be done, in the end,it looked like no damage to the house was even done. Thanks to them now we have permanent power instead of partial power. We will definitely recommend them to everyone.
Erwin and Harold from Edinson Electrical Solutions visited us to work on the dishwasher, the circuit breaker panel, outlets and possible installation of a new outlet box in the basement. Erwin was very thorough. He went through all the requirements of what needed to be done and provided options for us to pick. We wound up putting in a new outlet box for the dishwasher (which he diagnosed as needing replacement). He installed a new whole house surge protector at the circuit breaker panel. He fixed a few of the troublesome outlets. We decided not to install the outlet box in the basement at this time. What was impressive was the time he spent explaining the pros and cons of what needed to be done. I appreciated the explanations. They did an outstanding job for us and not was reasonable for the work that was performed.
Erwin and team were great! Provided multiple options for our project so we could decide what works best. It was a large project, upgrading 2 panels, removed 1 meter and went to 200 amps. Communication was great throughout and he made us a priority. We used Edinson for a previous project as well, we will continue to use them and would highly recommend them for a small or large project.

Erwin and Harold did an excellent job replacing many outlets and lights for our remodel. They also upgraded several switches for us. They were very respectful of our house, cleaning up after themselves as they worked. We will be calling them in the future for other work we will need to have done.

I contacted Erwin for help with 2 sub panel installations at my residence and from the moment I called him to the moment he walked off my property it was an example of customer-first professionalism. If you want to have a quality job done, with a friendly, safe and professional electrical contractor, look no further. He handles everything from A to Z and does not consider the job done until the customer is satisfied. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with him and his team. Outstanding service. If you choose this company, you won’t have any problems
I had a great experience with Edinson Electrical Solutions. They helped make my house much safer by upgrading all the smoke alarms, fixing some wiring issues with my baseboard heaters, and installing a electronic surge protector. Their work was very thorough and professional from start to finish. I’m extremely satisfied with the job they did and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for honest, high quality electrical work.
Juan and his crew were very professional, clean and respectful of our home. They fixed a ceiling fan and installed all new smoke alarm / carbon monoxide detectors, efficiently throughout the house.
We recently purchased our forever home and spent hours searching for a highly reputable electrician to help us with a large project. Erwin is the epitome of professional; he came for the estimate and talked us through every viable option to make major upgrades to our VERY outdated knob and tube electrical system. He was very receptive to our input and made us feel like we put a plan together as a team. His dedication to his clients is very apparent as he followed through with all the work he said he would do within the timeframe he provided; not only that, but he went above and beyond to ensure that we were left feeling safe and secure before he wrapped things up. He completely alleviated all our initial concerns by the time the project was done and has remained in contact to make sure everything has continued running smoothly. It’s rare to find someone that genuinely cares about others in the capacity that he does with the skills to boot. Don’t just take my word for it; give him a call and I guarantee that you will have him on standby for all your current and/or future needs. Keep up the great work!!!

Edwin was awesome. He showed exactly when he said he would and made sure the job was done. Perfect work.
Erwin not only fixed the initial problem that he was called for but probably saved our house from a potential fire hazard by identifying a faulty wired main breaker and evidence of water leaking into our main electrical panel. Erwin is knowledgeable, considerate, and very personable. We would not hesitate to call him again.
Very professional and knowledgeable about the trade. He took the time to explain many alternatives and what his recommendations were for what I needed and provided many quotes to meet my budget. Honest, top tier company.

Prompt, excellent service from an experienced and professional technician. Highly recommended
I’m very impressed with Edinson Co, specifically having worked with Erwin to estimate and assess an older century house’s electrical system. The process was smooth, thorough and actually enjoyable. Erwin is a down to earth guy and will have no problem keeping you aware of what needs to be done work wise, albeit very kind, funny and friendly to talk with. Never once did I feel pressured or unsure about any of his work. The process was simple enough to any homeowner; going off a general inspection and digging even deeper into whatever pops up on the report is exactly what Erwin did. His report was thoroughly informative after taking time checking for GFI circuitry and for k&t. If you have an older house and are interested in finding out what kind of projects you might encounter, Erwin definitely will shed some light on the situation. I am so grateful Erwin was referred to me, being that finding an honest and dedicated electrician is golden nowadays. Thank you so much Erwin!
Erwin arrived on time. The problem was fixed. Very professional. I would call them again

Ceiling Fan Installation Service
Ceiling fan installation begins with a careful assessment of the space, the existing electrical, and the customer’s goals for the room. We start by confirming the ceiling height because fan blade clearance must be at least seven feet above the finished floor for safety and code compliance. Rooms with vaulted or sloped ceilings often require a downrod extension to bring the fan to the proper height. We also check ceiling material, joist location, and accessible wiring paths before quoting the work. The fan box location must align with structural support, not just be convenient for switch placement. Our team brings stud finders, laser levels, and inspection cameras to confirm exactly what is behind the drywall. Customers appreciate that we take time to plan rather than cutting holes and hoping for the best. Every detail matters because a fan installed in the wrong spot can rub, wobble, or pull loose over time. Doing the homework up front prevents callbacks and disappointment later. This careful approach is part of what makes Edinson Electrical different.
Replacing an existing ceiling fan is usually faster and simpler than a brand new installation, though it still requires attention to detail. We turn off power at the breaker and verify with a non-contact voltage tester before removing the old fan. The existing box gets inspected for damage, corrosion, or signs that it was never rated for fan use. If the box is not fan-rated, we install a retrofit fan brace that expands between the joists from below without requiring access from the attic. Old wire nuts and electrical tape are replaced with new connectors rated for the conductor size. We check the supply wires for damage and re-strip them to clean conductor when needed. The new fan is assembled per the manufacturer instructions, with extra attention to balancing weights on the blades. Mounting hardware is torqued to specification because loose mounting screws cause wobble that grows worse over time. After installation we run the fan at every speed in both directions and confirm smooth operation. Customers receive a brief walkthrough of remote operation and seasonal direction settings.
New ceiling fan installations in rooms without existing wiring require more planning and labor than a simple replacement. We identify the best route to fish wire from the switch location up to the desired fan position. Sometimes this involves working through the attic; other times we route through walls and ceilings using minimal cut-ins. Old work boxes designed specifically for fans, often called pancake boxes with integrated braces, are installed at the new location. We pull 14/3 or 12/3 cable so the customer has the option of separate switching for the fan and light. The wall switch box is upgraded to accommodate a dual switch, a fan speed control, or a smart switch as needed. After rough wiring is complete, we test the circuit before patching any drywall openings. Patches are made carefully but final paint and texture work is typically left to a drywall finisher. The fan itself is installed only after the wall is closed and the circuit is verified. This staged approach keeps the project clean and predictable.
Outdoor and damp-location ceiling fans require fans specifically rated for those conditions. Covered porches, three-season rooms, and screened-in patios all need damp-rated fans at minimum. Fully exposed locations such as open pergolas or pool decks require wet-rated fans built with sealed motors and rust-resistant hardware. We confirm the location classification before recommending a fan because installing an indoor fan in a damp space voids the warranty and creates a safety hazard. The electrical box for outdoor installations must also be rated for the conditions, with weather-resistant cover plates and approved fittings on conduit entries. GFCI protection is required for outdoor fan circuits in most modern installations. We bond all metal components to the equipment grounding conductor to protect against shock. Salt-corrosion concerns are less of a factor in Pennsylvania than coastal areas, but humidity and temperature swings still affect fan longevity. Damp-rated and wet-rated fans installed correctly last for many years in our climate. Customers with outdoor living spaces appreciate the comfort a properly installed outdoor fan provides.
Smart ceiling fans and remote-controlled fans have grown popular as homeowners look for convenience and energy efficiency. Many modern fans include built-in receivers that pair with handheld remotes, wall controls, or smartphone apps. Some integrate directly with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit through Wi-Fi connections. We program the controls during installation so the customer walks into a working system rather than spending hours with a manual. Smart fans often allow scheduling, temperature-based automation, and integration with smart thermostats for whole-home comfort. The wiring requirements are sometimes different than standard fans, particularly when a neutral conductor is needed at the switch location. We verify wiring compatibility before recommending specific smart products. Customers who already have smart home ecosystems benefit from fans that work seamlessly with their existing devices. This kind of installation is a great example of where our experience pays off in time saved.
Balancing and adjustment after installation is the step that separates a properly installed fan from one that wobbles annoyingly. Most fans include a balancing kit with adhesive weights and a plastic clip for finding the heavy blade. We use the kit on every installation, even when the fan appears to spin smoothly initially. Small differences in blade weight become noticeable at higher speeds and over time. A wobbling fan stresses the motor bearings, the mounting hardware, and the ceiling structure. Our team tests every fan at low, medium, and high speed in both forward and reverse directions. Any noticeable wobble is corrected before we consider the job complete. We also verify that the fan light operates correctly, that pull chains move smoothly, and that remote-controlled features respond as expected. Customers receive a clean, quiet installation that performs the way the manufacturer intended. Attention to these details is why our work earns five-star reviews.
Ceiling fan installation often opens the door to related electrical improvements customers had not considered. Old switch boxes may need upgrading to accommodate dual switches or smart controls. Light fixtures elsewhere in the room may benefit from dimmer installation that pairs well with new fan lighting. Wiring discovered during the fan installation sometimes reveals issues like missing grounds, brittle insulation, or improper splices. We bring these findings to the customer’s attention with honest recommendations and clear pricing. Edinson Electrical never pressures customers into unnecessary work; we simply share what we observe and let homeowners decide. Bundling related work during a single visit usually saves on overall labor costs. Many customers in Allentown appreciate the chance to address several small issues before they become bigger problems. A fan installation can be the start of a broader electrical refresh that improves the whole home. We make these projects easy to plan and easy to live with.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Ceiling Fan Installation in Allentown
Hiring a licensed electrician for ceiling fan installation in Allentown matters more than many homeowners realize because the work involves both structural and electrical considerations. A ceiling fan weighs anywhere from fifteen to seventy pounds, and it spins at speeds that create torque on its mounting point. Standard light fixture boxes are not designed to support that kind of load, and an improperly braced fan can fall from the ceiling. Licensed electricians know exactly which box types meet UL standards for fan support and how to install them correctly. They also understand grounding requirements, switch wiring methods, and code-compliant cable routing that DIY guides often gloss over. Pennsylvania requires permits for certain electrical work, and licensed contractors handle that process correctly. Homeowners insurance can deny claims involving fires or injuries caused by unlicensed electrical work, leaving the homeowner financially exposed. Edinson Electrical carries full liability and workers’ compensation coverage, which protects both our team and the customer. Our lifetime craftsmanship warranty is only possible because we install everything to code on the first visit. When the work is over your head literally and figuratively, choosing a licensed professional is the only choice that makes sense.
FINANCING AVAILABLE
We offer financing through Synchrony to make larger electrical projects more manageable for homeowners.
LIFETIME WARRANTY
Our work is backed by a lifetime craftsmanship warranty, giving you long-term confidence that the job was done right and built to last.
LICENSED & INSURED
Edinson Electrical is fully licensed and insured, giving you confidence that your electrical work is handled by qualified professionals.
Commonly Asked Ceiling Fan Installation Questions
Ceiling fans seem simple, but the right installation depends on details most people never think about until it is time to schedule the work. The questions below cover what homeowners across the Lehigh Valley most often ask before, during, and after a ceiling fan installation.
The cost of installing a ceiling fan depends on whether the location already has wiring and a fan-rated box or whether new electrical work is needed. Replacing an existing fan with a new one is typically the most affordable scenario because the wiring, switch, and box are already in place. Installing a fan in a location with only a light fixture currently requires upgrading the box to a fan-rated one, which adds a moderate amount of labor. New installations in rooms without any overhead electrical at all are the most involved because new cable must be fished through walls and ceilings. Switch installation, sometimes including upgrading from a single switch to a dual switch, is another factor that affects price. Edinson Electrical provides written estimates so homeowners know the full cost before any work begins.
The price of the fan itself is not included in our installation estimates unless we are supplying the unit. Customers typically purchase fans from home improvement stores, lighting showrooms, or online retailers. We are happy to provide recommendations on quality brands and appropriate sizes for specific rooms. Bargain fans often save money up front but tend to wobble, fail prematurely, and have less reliable lighting and remote functions. Mid-range and higher-end fans from manufacturers like Hunter, Casablanca, and Minka-Aire usually deliver better long-term value. The price difference at purchase is often modest compared to the cost of replacing a low-quality fan a few years later.
Bundling multiple fan installations into a single visit can significantly reduce the per-fan cost. Travel time, setup, and cleanup are spread across more units, lowering the average price. Homeowners refreshing a whole house often save by scheduling all fan work on the same day. Financing through Synchrony is available for larger projects that include multiple fans, switch upgrades, or related electrical improvements. We explain all pricing clearly so there are no surprises later. Edinson Electrical never marks up unnecessary add-ons just to inflate an invoice. Our customers in Allentown trust us to price work fairly and finish it right.
A ceiling fan can usually be installed where a light fixture currently exists, though the electrical box almost always needs to be replaced. Standard light fixture boxes are rated to hold fifty pounds of static load but are not designed for the rotating, vibrating load of a ceiling fan. Installing a fan on a standard box is a code violation and a safety hazard. We replace the existing box with a UL-listed fan-rated brace that anchors to the ceiling joists. Retrofit braces are designed to install from below without requiring attic access, which keeps the job clean and affordable. The wiring already in place is typically sufficient for a standard fan with light, though we verify conductor size and grounding before connecting the new fixture.
The switching arrangement may also need adjustment when converting a light fixture location to a fan location. A single switch can operate both the fan and the light together using pull chains for individual control, which is the simplest approach. Many customers prefer dual switching with one switch for the fan and another for the light, which requires three-conductor cable between the switch and the fan. If only two-conductor cable is in place, we discuss whether running new cable is practical or whether wall-mounted remote controls would be a better solution. Remote controls have improved significantly in recent years and work reliably with modern fans. The choice depends on customer preference and the construction of the home.
Aesthetics and proportion also factor into converting a light location to a fan location. Some rooms are sized for a small chandelier or pendant rather than a 52-inch fan, and a fan that is too large can look out of place. We help customers select the right fan size for the room based on square footage and ceiling height. Damp-rated fans for kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms have specific requirements that we explain during the planning conversation. Edinson Electrical handles the full conversion from light to fan with attention to both function and appearance. Customers in Allentown appreciate the chance to improve airflow and lighting in a single visit. The result is a properly installed fan that fits the room and operates safely for years.
Ceiling fan size is determined primarily by the square footage of the room and secondarily by the ceiling height. Small rooms up to 75 square feet, such as small bathrooms or walk-in closets, typically use fans with blade spans of 29 to 36 inches. Medium rooms between 76 and 144 square feet, including most bedrooms and offices, work well with 42 to 48 inch fans. Large rooms up to 225 square feet, like family rooms and dining rooms, generally need 50 to 54 inch fans. Great rooms and large open spaces over 225 square feet benefit from oversized fans with blade spans of 56 inches or larger. Matching the fan to the room ensures effective air movement without overpowering or underperforming.
Ceiling height affects fan selection because adequate clearance is required between the blades and the floor. Standard eight-foot ceilings work best with low-profile hugger or flush-mount fans that minimize the drop below the ceiling. Nine-foot ceilings allow standard downrod fans without making the room feel cramped. Vaulted, cathedral, and high ceilings need longer downrods to bring the fan into the optimal airflow zone, typically eight to nine feet above the floor. Installing a fan too high reduces its effectiveness because the air movement does not reach the occupants below. Conversely, installing too low creates safety concerns and visual clutter.
Multiple fans are sometimes the right answer in long, narrow rooms or great rooms with high ceilings. Two smaller fans installed in line often outperform a single large fan in spaces longer than twenty feet. Open-concept areas with kitchen and living room combined frequently benefit from a fan in each zone. We help customers think through these layout decisions during the estimate. Airflow rated in cubic feet per minute, or CFM, is another specification worth considering because it indicates how much air the fan actually moves. Higher CFM ratings deliver better cooling and circulation, especially in warmer rooms. Edinson Electrical installs the size and style that fits your space, your aesthetic, and your budget. Allentown customers benefit from this combination of practical guidance and quality workmanship.
Yes, ceiling fans require a fan-rated electrical box that is specifically designed and tested to support the weight and movement of a fan. The National Electrical Code requires fan-rated boxes for any fan installation, and standard fixture boxes are not acceptable substitutes. Fan-rated boxes are marked with a UL listing that confirms they meet weight and torque specifications. These boxes attach to the ceiling structure either by mounting directly to a joist, using a brace that spans between joists, or with a pancake-style flush mount where space is limited. The box must support at least thirty-five pounds for fans up to thirty-five pounds and seventy pounds for larger fans. This requirement exists because a fan exerts both downward force and rotational stress on the mounting point.
Retrofit fan braces are an excellent option when an existing light box needs to be upgraded without opening the ceiling. These braces install through the opening in the drywall and expand between the joists, then clamp tight to support a fan-rated box. We use this method routinely on replacement projects because it allows the conversion without major drywall repair. New construction or open-ceiling installations use direct-mount boxes that attach to the joist with screws. Either approach delivers a code-compliant mounting point that supports the fan safely. We never install a fan on a box that is not rated for the application.
Older homes sometimes have unusual ceiling structures that require special attention. Plaster and lath ceilings, concrete ceilings, and engineered truss systems each present different challenges. We have encountered nearly every situation and know how to handle each one safely. Hollow-block ceilings in some commercial spaces require expansion anchors and structural calculations to support a fan. Customers with unusual ceilings benefit from working with electricians who have seen the situation before. Edinson Electrical brings years of experience installing fans in homes built in every era. We deliver installations that meet code, support the fan reliably, and look professional. Allentown homeowners trust us with fan installations in everything from historic homes to brand new construction.
A new ceiling fan that wobbles almost always has either a balance problem, a mounting problem, or a blade alignment problem. The most common cause is slightly unequal weight distribution across the blades, which is normal during manufacturing. Every fan we install includes a balancing kit with adhesive weights and a plastic clip used to identify the heavy blade. We apply the balancing weights during installation, which usually eliminates wobble before the customer ever notices it. Fans that develop wobble months or years later have usually accumulated dust unevenly on the blades, which can be resolved with cleaning followed by rebalancing.
Mounting issues cause wobble that does not respond to balancing because the problem is at the ceiling rather than at the blades. Loose mounting screws, an improperly secured fan-rated box, or a downrod that is not fully tightened all create movement at the mount. We torque every mounting connection to specification during installation to prevent this issue. Ball-and-socket mounts that are not fully seated cause a different kind of wobble that worsens at higher speeds. If wobble appears after months of use, the mounting hardware may have loosened from vibration and needs to be re-tightened.
Blade alignment is another factor that can cause persistent wobble even when the fan is properly mounted and balanced. Blades that are slightly bent, warped from moisture, or installed crooked all create uneven airflow that translates into vibration. We check blade alignment using a yardstick or alignment tool, measuring from the ceiling to the tip of each blade. Blades that are out of alignment by more than an eighth of an inch typically need adjustment. Sometimes a bent blade arm can be straightened gently; other times the blade or arm needs replacement. Edinson Electrical handles balancing, alignment, and adjustment as part of every installation. Customers in Allentown get fans that run smoothly, quietly, and reliably from day one. A wobble-free fan is a sign of professional installation.
A typical ceiling fan replacement, where wiring and a fan-rated box are already in place, takes about an hour to ninety minutes per fan. The actual electrical work is fast, but assembling the fan, mounting it carefully, balancing the blades, and testing all functions adds time to the total. Multiple fans installed during the same visit go faster on average because tools are already set up and the team is in the rhythm of the work. Replacing fans in rooms with high ceilings or limited access takes longer because of the additional setup required.
Installing a fan in a location that previously had only a light fixture takes roughly two hours because the box needs upgrading to a fan-rated brace. This work involves removing the old box, installing the retrofit brace from below, and verifying that the mounting is secure. The wiring connections are typically straightforward, but we always check for grounding and proper conductor size before connecting the new fan. New installations in rooms without any existing electrical require significantly more time because cable must be fished from the switch to the fan location.
Customers planning multiple installations across an entire home often appreciate a half-day or full-day visit that addresses everything at once. We coordinate the timing with customers in advance so they know what to expect. Power is restored as quickly as possible during the work, and we never leave a circuit deenergized unnecessarily. Cleanup is part of the job, so customers do not deal with packaging materials, drywall dust, or stray screws after we leave. Edinson Electrical communicates throughout the project so timing is clear from start to finish. Most fan installations are completed in a single visit without requiring follow-up appointments. Allentown homeowners value this efficient, professional approach.
Standard light dimmers should never be used to control the speed of a ceiling fan because they can damage the fan motor and create fire hazards. Light dimmers are designed for resistive loads like incandescent bulbs, while fan motors are inductive loads with very different electrical characteristics. Using a light dimmer on a fan can cause the motor to hum, overheat, and eventually fail. The dimmer itself can also overheat and become a fire risk. Fan speed control requires either a dedicated fan speed switch designed for inductive loads or a remote control receiver built into the fan itself.
The light kit on a ceiling fan, however, can often be controlled by a dimmer if the bulbs and fixture are compatible. LED bulbs require dimmers specifically rated for LED loads to avoid flickering and buzzing. Some integrated LED fan lights are not dimmable at all, while others include built-in dimming controlled by remote or smart switches. We verify compatibility before installing dimmer switches with fan lights to avoid problems. Smart switches that handle both fan speed and light dimming on separate circuits are an excellent option for customers who want clean wall controls.
Smart fans and remote-controlled fans handle speed and dimming through their built-in receivers rather than through wall switches. The wall switch in these installations simply provides power to the fan, and all speed and light controls happen at the remote or smartphone app. This approach simplifies wiring because only a standard switch is needed at the wall. We program these systems during installation and walk customers through the operation before leaving. Edinson Electrical stays current with the latest fan control technology so we can recommend the best solution for each situation. Allentown homeowners benefit from our willingness to handle traditional and modern fan controls equally well. The right control system makes a fan more enjoyable to use every day.
Ceiling fans should spin counterclockwise in summer to push air down and create a cooling breeze on the people below. The downward airflow creates a wind chill effect that makes a room feel several degrees cooler without actually changing the air temperature. This allows homeowners to raise the thermostat setting and reduce air conditioning costs while staying comfortable. The fan does not cool the room itself; it only cools the people in it, which is why fans should be turned off when no one is present. Counterclockwise rotation is also called forward rotation in most fan manuals.
In winter, ceiling fans should spin clockwise at a low speed to gently pull cool air up and push warm air down along the walls. Warm air naturally rises and collects near the ceiling, especially in rooms with vaulted or high ceilings. The clockwise rotation redistributes that warm air without creating a draft on the occupants below. This reverse mode can reduce heating costs by improving the efficiency of the heating system. The fan should run at low speed in winter because higher speeds create a noticeable draft that defeats the purpose.
Most ceiling fans include a small switch on the motor housing that reverses the direction of rotation. Newer fans with remote controls or smart features often have a reverse button on the remote or in the app. We show customers how to operate the reverse function during installation so the fan can be adjusted seasonally without confusion. Some smart fans automatically reverse based on temperature or schedule, which removes the need to remember the change at all. Edinson Electrical explains these features as part of the installation walkthrough. Customers get the most value from a ceiling fan when they understand how to use it correctly year-round. Allentown homeowners appreciate the energy savings that come from running their fans the right way.
